If you have an outpatient appointment booked with us, we will write to you to confirm its date, time and location. Please check the details on your appointment letter carefully and contact us if you are unable to attend.
Preparing for your appointment
Before your outpatient appointment there are a few items we suggest you bring with you:
- Your appointment letter or appointment card
- Information about you; including your address, your GP’s address and for children, their school address.
- Medicines and allergy treatments; the names of the medication, what you’re taking it for and how often you take it.
When you arrive at the hospital
- Your appointment letter or appointment card should tell you where to go when you arrive.
- If not, please ask at the hospital reception located at the main entrance on Level A to find out where you should go. We also have a number of volunteer helpers who will be happy to help you.
- Please use the self-service kiosks located throughout the hospital to register that you have arrived at the hospital. The kiosks will print a ticket which will provide you with a queue number.
- Please arrive 10 minutes before your appointment. Every missed appointment costs the NHS £160. On arrival, please speak to the clinic receptionist, who will explain what you need to do next.
- PHU works in close partnership with local universities to train our health professionals of the future. This means that sometimes a student nurse, doctor or therapist, may be present during your care or treatment. If you have any concerns about this, please speak to the ward or department team.
If you need to have a follow up appointment, we will arrange this with you before you leave.
If the doctor tells you, you do not need to come back to outpatients or you will be admitted as an inpatient please tells the receptionist who will make a note on your records.
If you are prescribed new or different medication, your doctor will either write and inform your GP or give you a prescription to take to the hospital pharmacy.
